Cambodia Gambling Halls
There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are based in a relatively small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; still, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 1700, and though visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are methods around this, as is true of many borders.
The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship gambling hall, features 150 slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of 150 slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machines and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six table games, including 87 punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel compound that contains a number of comforts in addition to the gambling den, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight tables.
