Cambodia Gambling Dens

[ English ]

There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling den wagering is banned. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime destination, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a couple of controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; still, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 17:00, and though visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are means around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling hall, features 150 one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel building that contains numerous conveniences aside from the gambling hall, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 table games.
