Cambodia Gambling Dens

[ English ]

There is an appealing story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where casino gaming is against the law. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent spot, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and even though visas are supposedly necessary to cross, there are methods around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge casino, features 150 slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that features a number of luxuries accompanying the casino, which houses ten thousand square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
